About Us

Kentucky Defenders basketball started in 2012 with it’s 2020 5th grade boys team under the direction of Roosevelt Bowles. Coach Bowles started the program to give young players a chance to play at a high level for an affordable rate. Since 2012 the organization has grown to include 12 teams from 3rd through 11th grade including both girls and boys teams.

The Kentucky Defenders mission is to teach players to be well-rounded. We like to say every player is a guard first. We take players that some may see as average and teach them to perform a high level. We motivate players to:

Be Coachable: players must be willing to execute the role a coach asks of them to give their team the best chance to win the game.

Be a Team Player: we want all players to be excited for their teammates and willing to give a helping hand.

Raise Basketball IQ: players are taught to value the ball on each possession.

Be a Defensive Stopper: it’s in our name, we train players to be a strong defensive player at every position and take pride in being able to stop their opponent.

Have Self-Confidence: we want players to believe in themselves and all the training the receive

When players are willing to play together as one and buy into what they are being taught, we believe a team will be successful and they can play for any system a college coach may have.
